EdTech and K-12 Athletics Leaders Launch Play Axion

New venture to streamline facility management and game operations for schools; full platform launch set for summer 2025
FRISCO, Texas – A team of industry veterans behind some of the most successful technology solutions in K-12 athletics has come together to launch Play Axion, a game changer in facility and game operations. The platform is designed to simplify facility management, playoff scheduling, and event operations for school athletic programs.
Founded by Jon Youngblood, Donnie Schemetti, and Russell Hertzberg, Play Axion is built to help athletic directors and school administrators overcome long-standing challenges in scheduling postseason events, securing neutral sites, managing event workers, and optimizing facility rentals. The company will roll out its full platform in summer 2025, offering a modern, purpose-built solution for schools, districts, and athletic associations.
Schemetti and Hertzberg, co-founders of digital ticketing leader Ticket Spicket, which was acquired by HomeTown in 2022, bring extensive experience in building and scaling technology solutions for school athletics. Youngblood, who played a key role in expanding digital fundraising platform Schoolfundr, has also been at the forefront of advancing tech solutions for K-12 programs.
“Athletic directors juggle countless responsibilities, and existing solutions often fail to meet their needs,” said Youngblood, a basketball coach, tournament director, and former high school athletic administrator in North Texas, “We’re building Play Axion to be intuitive, efficient, and tailored to the realities of running K-12 athletic programs. By streamlining these complex processes, we can help schools maximize resources, support youth athletics, and strengthen community engagement.”
Having worked together previously and with several vendors in the industry, the trio saw firsthand the inefficiencies that burden athletic departments. With Play Axion, they aim to eliminate fragmented processes and equip schools with a smarter, more connected way to organize and oversee events.
“School athletic departments are still stuck using outdated methods that create unnecessary stress for administrators,” said Schemetti, a sales and marketing leader specializing in growing K-12 vendors and technology brands. “Play Axion simplifies game operations so athletic directors can focus on what really matters—creating great experiences for student-athletes and their communities.”
The Play Axion platform is being developed to address the biggest pain points in K-12 athletics, including playoff event scheduling, neutral site management, event worker payments, and facility rental optimization.
Hertzberg, a trailblazing entrepreneur in sports and education technology, underscored the company’s long-term vision.
“Play Axion isn’t just about solving today’s challenges—it’s about shaping the future of athletic administration,” Hertzberg said. “We’re building a platform that evolves with the needs of schools, providing the tools they need to run more efficient, profitable, and well-organized athletic programs.”
As the company prepares for its summer launch, Play Axion is actively engaging with athletic directors across the nation to refine its offerings. Schools interested in early access can join the waitlist at www.playaxion.com.
